KEF R3 bookshelf speaker. Performance on a standmount is redefined by R3. It makes sense because it uses the same drivers as the top-of-the-line R11. The 165mm (6.5 in.) bass driver, a real three-way speaker, pushes bass performance to new heights. The Uni-Q array, which is made up of a 25mm (1 in.) aluminum dome tweeter and a 125mm (5 in.) midrange driver, defies expectations for the smallest main speaker in the lineup. However, KEF Speakers engineers have lessened the influence of these required gaps by opening a chamber beneath the drivers and adding resonance-absorbing dampening material for a more precise, purer treble. Tiny resonances are caused by air moving through the tiny gaps between Uni-individual Q's parts.
Dark Flare
A cutting-edge method to reduce detrimental high-frequency cabinet diffraction is the Shadow Flare. The waveguide effect of Uni-Q is extended by a precisely contoured transition. The "shade zone" prevents the treble from reaching the cabinet sides, allowing it to naturally exit. The end effect is far better in fine detail. These speakers are powered by KEF's Bookshelf Speakers recognizable Uni-Q driver array.

Port Flexibility Technology
Port design Speakers is essential for producing deep, articulate bass. Innovative flexible barriers are featured in the R Series ports. The flare and profile of each port are computed using computational fluid dynamics to delay the beginning of turbulence, and the flexible port walls prevent resonances from tinting the midrange.
The KEF R3 Speakers is only 42 cm high, making them relatively narrow and small boxes, but they still provide a considerable degree of bass weight and force. They sound most balanced far from any barriers in our testing space. As a good place to start, we advise setting them up at least 70 cm into the space.
The R3 by KEF are three-way speakers with a separate bass driver. With such a setup, each driver—tweeter, midrange, and bass—can be adjusted and optimized to operate in its respective frequency spectrum with less sacrifice than a two-way system would require. Port design is a key component in producing deep, expressive bass.
Sound Quality
Starting with Debussy's Clair De Lune, we are able to fully appreciate the R3 Speakers by KEF exceptional midrange clarity and their finesse in capturing the piano's delicate dynamic nuances. The KEFs do a fantastic job of reproducing the recording's natural acoustics, displaying a level of comprehension and level of detail resolution much beyond most competitors.
