The Mission LX-4 MKII series is the latest in a long line of outstanding mission speakers, joining the award-winning midrange QX series and flagship ZX series. The LX-MKII retains Mission's trademark "Inverted Driver Geometry" design, optimizing the path length between drivers. This arrangement is unique in this price range and allows the precision-tuned crossover to deliver improved transient response and amazing detail. Perfected after hours of critical listening, the Mission MKII floorstanding speaker leverages trickle-down innovations from the acclaimed ZX series.
Enhancements to the renowned Mission Diadrive bass unit provide superior low frequency cone control, while refined high frequency performance and a revised cabinet bracing system further help create a speaker system that beats the price. The speaker features a 2-way speaker design with a pair of 5" woofers and a 25mm tweeter. The LX- series tower speaker of mission brand is rated at 8 ohms and can handle up to 120 watts of amplification, making it ideal for back tower speaker systems.
New Drivers
One of the key areas highlighted in the development of the Mission ZX and QX models was the use of splines around the driver to scatter spurious reflections from local surfaces into the dome and cone. The LX4-MKII by mission incorporates these serrations into the driver surround, adding even more finesse to the driver unit output and providing a smoother frequency response. After fixing minor issues in driver response, each model crossover has been tweaked to take advantage of the improvements.
Geometric design
Mission's classic Inverted Driver Geometry (IDG) driver format places the high frequencies below the bass/midrange driver. That is, the path lengths are equalized and the sound waves coincide at the listener's head height. Impressive Sound
The placement of the bass/midrange driver close to ear level and the height unit below, the path lengths from the acoustic center of the two drivers are equal and the sound waves are aligned at the listener's head level. The 2-Way Floorander MkII and LX4 MkII extend the IDG to a full D'Appolito array with height units paired with a pair of Diadrive bass/midrange drivers (one top, one bottom) place it between the largest model in the series, his LX-4 MkII, is a three-way design with a dedicated midrange driver above the tweeter and a pair of woofers below.
Tech-Loaded
After resolving minor driver response issues, each model's crossover network has been optimized to take advantage of the improved performance. The 4-LX MkII series blends drivers seamlessly using a 4th order Linkwitz-Riley network developed using advanced computer modelling and hours of listening tests. It excels in its ability to balance good off-axis performance with flatter on-axis results.
High Frequency output
High frequency drive units require very consistent parts and manufacturing to be selected for mission loudspeakers. Given the small amount of moving mass involved, microdroplets of high-tech glue can throw the design off balance, affecting sensitivity and frequency response.
